Default January Trip

I'm planning our January trip. I need some help.

Still have a few open dates. Namely Jan 7-10. In looking at rates and vacancies, I realized I'm running into CES and rates are out of sight (they jump from specials on the 6th of $25 to slightly inflated of $100 on the 7th and then even higher on the 9th and 10th).

I can probably stay in Laughlin with comped nights.

Does anyone have any ideas for Las Vegas accomodations that are not at the "convention prices"?

Thanks for any help.

If you stay far off the Strip, such as Boulder Highway, N. Las Vegas or Henderson, can't you find much lower room rates for those days?

I realize it's farther away, but for just a few days I would think you could drive the extra miles in order to save a lot of money on your room.

Just a thought.

It appears that Wed & Thurs are in the $80 category while the weekend goes over $100, even at places like Eastside Cannery or Gold Coast or Wild Wild West.

Did find $75 each night at Southpoint.

I guess this is the time it pays to be a member of a good player's club that will give you a decent discount on the room?

Usually, the casinos will charge higher room rates during conventions for the general public, but still keep them low for their players.

Do you play slots or table games? If you are comfortable making larger bets I'm sure you could easily call a casino host and get a good rate.

If you are a lower level player maybe there is a casino that sent you good offers in the past and has stopped mailing them to you? Try contacting them and see what they can do for you. Casinos are always looking for active players.

Because we don't normally use air travel anymore, we have accumulated some points with both Choice Hotels and the Wyndham chain. Have decided that we'll stay the first 3 of the 4 open nights in Laughlin and then go up to Las Vegas on Saturday. I can use points to stay at the Econo Lodge on Las Vegas Blvd.

However, I don't think it is in a very good area. That doesn't mean we can't shut ourselves in and put a chair under the door knob but thought I would make sure that I am correct in my feelings about the neighborhood. I think it is a couple blocks north of the Stratosphere.

Any response?

My wife and I are staying at The Four Queens Jan 1-4th. We got a deal through Expedia for $185 for the entire stay. Not bad.. Downtown has some really good rates. The Nugget is offering $49 a night during January on certain dates. So, look around, you'll find something better than The Econo Lodge.
