  • Palms Resort fee up again

The casino that for a long, long while simply charged a dollar in fees is now charging $20 a night resort fee. That is more than I usually pay on average per night for the hotel room cost itself.
We had hoped the practice would fade, driven away by irate customers, but it is now more and more important to watch where you book a room because it may go up at any time. It is also important to ask again about it when confirming a booking. The rate you pay at booking won't change before you actually go to Vegas, but the resort fee might.
The best and safest way is to call directly to the hotels of interest and ask about the fees. They seem to be going up without warning.

Meanwhile it is hard to believe that downtown won't get ever more business as the rooms there see constantly new renovation to make them more comfortable. The Grand is soon to open. The D is changing. The Golden Gate is being renovated. The Plaza renovation is finished and soon we expect a similar job on Las Vegas Club. And the El Cortez is getting good points on their Cabana. The only downtown casino to charge a resort fee is the Gold Spike but the rates are often so low that it is still a good deal with free wifi thrown into the bargain.
With the new buses taking the edge off getting from downtown to the strip or out Boulder highway, it seems a great location where resort fees won't drive the price of the room off the charts.
