On one progressive that starts at $10,000 and normally hits around $13,000, the prize recently ran up to $29,000 with a constant lineup of players hoping to be the lucky one. This machine must have taken in over a million for the house as it never hits for very much as it just sucks player after player dry. Just yesterday, I saw an attendant taking the machine out of service (it was in working order) and asked why it was being shut down. He said it wasn't working and had to be shut down. Just five minutes later it was up and running again. It looked to me like the attendant was just adjusting some switches inside the machine when he had it open. Within the next hour, it magically managed to hit the progressive. I think it looked fairly obvious that the machine was taken out of "kill" mode so that one of the house's insiders could take the pot. There are several machines throughout the house that just keep going up and up, some to many times the starting jackpot. I suggest you stay away from these machines unless you are a special guest of the casino that's tipped off to them being "fixed" up for you.
