  • Would she have one if she stayed on the same machine?

My wife plays video poker. Is she plays a machine for a while and it doesn't hit, she'll move to another machine. If someone then sits down and hits on the machine she just left, she is angry that she left and someone else hit. I try to convince he that if she stayed, that same winning hand dealt to someone else may not have been dealt to her. She thinks if she had stayed, that winning hand would have been hers. We argue about this all the time. Who's right?

I would say that you are correct. The machine is not "due" to hit and it was just random luck that the correct winning combination was chosen by the random number generator (RNG) when the deal/draw button was pushed. The only way the result would be the same is if they both pushed the deal/draw button at the exact same microsecond, which is extremely unlikely.
