  • free drinkswhilst playing slots at casino bars

hi. advice please. What is the proceedure for free drinks at a casino bar when gambling. Was in vegas for first time last year and my wife and I sat up at a bar and ordered two drinks. When the bartender served us I handed him a 20 dollar note to pay for the drinks. He gave me a roll of quarters instead and put the bill in a small glass beside us. I didnt know whether the drinks were free cos we were going to gamble or whether I had to pay when we were finished. Another time we sat at the bar and someone else sat next to us at the same time. We both played the slots but we paid for our drink but they got theres free. Confusing and any advice from anyone on the proceedure will be most welcomed. Thanks. Alan

I don't play video poker very much at the bars, but I think it's fairly simple. You just play and the drinks are free.

When they put the bill in the glass I believe you are supposed to just sign it because they are comping you. Of course, you should also leave a tip for the server.

Anyway, that is my recollection of the procedure. Anyone else want to help answer this question?

      My experience as well.
I immediately put a tip in the glass.

After a while they usually will ask you if you want another.

Best Vegas VP at a bar is at the Boar's Head downtown at Main Street Station. 9/6 JOB in quarters. Nice microbrews like black chip porter as comps. And if you hit a quad, you leave it up, call the bartender, and get a scratch card worth at least $2.

Second best is the Vue bar at the Fitzgeralds. It is 8/5 Bonus poker but there are three progressive lines, so it is often a very good play. Same deal on comped drinks.

Anywhere I am I just ask. No bartender anywhere is offended, even in places that don't do this, like Atlantis. My wife wanted cognac there in the Bahamas before going to bed. At the bar it was $13, nothing comped for VP play although the games were at the bar.
In the casino it was free. So she played 20 cents a pull on some slot with sharks and dolphins (perfect for Atlantis) until she (and I ) were served, combined both drinks in one snifter, cashed out a dollar ahead, and we went off to bed.

And that's why we are called small potato gamblers.

Tip the bartenders per drink. Two people, two drinks, two tips.

My experience varies wildly in this. Where drinks are comped, I just put the tip in the same glass where the bartender puts the check. The variance occurs in how vigilant the bartender is on how slowly you are playing. At certain casinos the bartender could not care less, and replenished my cocktails as fast as I could pound 'em down. At others (Bally's, for example) the bartender gave me one but told me he couldn't give me any more unless I was playing max coin.

I seem to remember getting actually charged for the drink at 4Q, but may be mistaken.

Max coin is pretty much a standard condition.
I find it hard to slow up my VP play, so I don't know the frugal threshhold on that one.
