  • Comps at Las Vegas casinos?

Question: Just got home from 3 night trip to Vegas. Was trip #5..we always stay somewhere different. This time was Harrah's. We dropped probably a grand playing with our 'Total Rewards' card at different Harrah's properties. When we cashed out our comps to leave I got $5. and hubby got $3.

Whoop de doo...last year we stayed at Hooters and got a bunch of stuff and the year before we stayed at the Trop and got a huge load of stuff and only stayed 2 nights and spent less..what gives with Harrah's? Next year will stay somewhere else again...

I believe that Harrah's gives comps based on a 'theoretical win' depending on the type of machine played.

What kind of games were you playing?

We played everything..pennies. nickels, quarters, dollars..Caesars, Harrahs, Rio and Flamingo. Thought since we were staying there it would be to our benefit to use the card at the Harrah's properties listed on the Total Rewards card. When we stayed at the Tropicana 2 years ago we got enough stuff comped that we had to buy another piece of luggage to get it home and didn't spend near as much..is this a sign of the times, maybe?
I think next time we will stay somewhere else and try again.

I think Steve meant WHAT GAMES, as in Video Poker. If hubby got $3, he was lucky...in Indiana you need $5 minimum to get cash back.

They are also famous for taking care of the customers with great 'bounce-back' offers based on previous play. Watch your mailbox!

              Re: Comps

Harrah's is making a lot of cutbacks.

Went in the Diamond Lounge and they only leave hot food out from 4-6 pm with just little things to pick from. I heard they took top shelf out on Paris in Las Vegas was there the past week.

They will hurt themselves more by not giving anything when people have to turn $50,000 to $100,000 a year to get in there.

So they may say things are bad, but they just will hurt themselves more.

With the price of gas and groceries in the 'real world' they will hurt those of us who go there frequently as a get away. We can choose the Indian Casinos at home, but really love Las Vegas for the entertainment, atmosphere, weather and diversity. We may not be high rollers, but you can't tell me that they won't miss Mr. and Mrs. Average Joe as we will miss them when we just can't afford it anymore. Gambling is a luxury that can be cut out when necessities will come first

                  Re: Comps

I agree with you, Bonnie. My husband and I are looking to get away to a casino (the only one remotely close to us is the Grand Victoria in Elgin, IL, but we really don't care for it), so we are going over the mailings from the Iowa casinos and HoChunk in Wisconsin to decide where to go. We feel that if we are going to pay $4.00 for a gallon of gas, we want to go somewhere we can get comped rooms or food.

We are leaning toward Iowa this time since I have two free nights at the Isle in Bettendorf and in June my husband gets a free buffet, t-shirt, and $10.00 in free play at Riverside for his birthday. We also have other coupons from Riverside, and if we earn 100 points ($100 of play), we can get $0.25 off a gallon of gas at the station close to the casino.

Sure wish Rockford, IL would get a casino.
We are hoping to go to Vegas in the fall.

                    Re: Comps

Don't go too Charlestown, WVa. casino, they have no comps for the average player.
