  • John Ascuaga's Nugget: Nice hotel with a great indoor pool

We stay at the Nugget a couple times a year with our kids, age 4 and 7. It's a nice overnight getaway from Southern CA. Room rates are very reasonable, and sometimes on Priceline you can get a weekend night under $40 these days, or through a special directly from the hotel. The east tower is updated with flat tv's, etc, but we usually choose the west tower because rooms are bigger. West tower rooms are a little dated with 80's decor but very comfortable. Rosie's is a good coffee shop. As of our last visit they now seem to include wifi with the resort fee, or maybe that was a special one-time deal we got. What I like best about the Nugget is the beautiful indoor pool. It's great to be able to swim in the middle of winter. This is a pretty kid-friendly hotel.I haven't done much gambling at the Nugget. I usually play at the Western Village instead, where they have $2 blackjack.

Correction, that should read a nice getaway from Northern CA. If I lived in Southern CA I'd go to vegas.
