  • Is the slot machine RNG Truly Random and Do Slot Machines Have Payout Cycles?

I received an interesting email today from a guy in Sweden.

He seems to think that everything I say about slot machines is "non-true" and that all slot machines have payout cycles and that random number generators in slot machines do not act randomly.

His email is shown below and I will post my reply to him shortly.

My name is Michael and I have tried to get some real answers about online (internet) and off-line (on the floor) slots that are actually true.

I am a software developer since the mid 80’s, and I have been working with computers all of my life. I am also a very logical thinking person, well above a normal IQ that is. I have really high computer skills, both hardware and software, and I am a programmer using several programming languages.

I also work with internet programming and graphics among many, many other fields close to the computer world.

I have been in contact with Michael Bluejay and Michael Shakleford, people you know, and also other people. The most interesting response is that there are no response, this from several ”game control boards” as they call them selves, but I did manage to get one answer from one, really large control board and they stated that ”game logics” can indeed change the outcome, and that ”the only thing the RNG does is to generate random numbers”.

Michael Bluejay was not nice to me, and that he will regret when my book arrives at the stores. Michael Shakleford was a bit nicer, but seems to do anything to not answering my questions personally. Of course, I know why they react as they do, the question is how you will react?

You should know that this e-mail and your answer(s) will end up in my book, and if no answer at all is given I will let my future readers know that too. But this should not be a problem for you, since you are telling the truth about slots, right?

The reason I contact you is really because of two reasons; the first one is that I am writing a book to reveal the actual truth of slots, and the other reason is that you are clearly spreading non true facts about slots, these include your statements saying that slots are
totally random, that the odds are the same for each spin, and that there are no payout cycles. This is not the truth, and I can prove it in several ways, and that I will do in my book to come and with a little help from a web site that I work on at the moment.

I will of course attach a few screen shots to this e-mail of the statistics from my program that I programmed my self, it is called ”Pro Casino Slots Clicker” and I will NOT release it so that others can buy it, not for now anyway, but I will use a web page (under construction at the moment) to show interested people (this would be all the gamblers of the world) how and why my program is working.

People will of course see how the real odds will change to the much better for me with the help of my program, and they will also understand that there really is no truth at all in your statements. Since your total business is dependent on what you’ve stated about slots, you might want to take this letter seriously. I AM currently really, really tired of hearing and reading about made-up myths from you and others. The RNG exist, and it is controlled and fair, and for now it will keep gamblers calm, but the real problem as I see it I will describe below, but just so you know; the selected RNG numbers can not be used by the software to point at symbols (game elements) that do not exist in that kind of spin! Or, well, at least one copy of each game element must exist in a so called virtual reel, but if every reel has a copy of every game element that exist in a slot, let’s say ten game elements, it would not matter because the virtual reels can be really large, and the other thing is that a RNG will not output the same number twice in a row, so to protect big wins or jackpot symbols, they will be put on the exact same number on every reel, and it would be impossible to hit it.

Now, there are several ways to hide the real functions behind the RNG, but because the slot software can change the ”virtual reels” in between the spins, there is no way to say that the RNG is not fair because the RNG is doing its job, but what good will a written certificate that states ”the RNG is controlled” do when the RNG is not really in charge of the outcome of every spin?! It might have fooled gamblers, and I am tired of it. It is time to let the gamblers of the world to really know the truth!

Now, before you believe that you have an answer I would like you to read on, and have a look at the statistics.

This clicker software of mine can record spins among other things, and this function will after several hours, days, months and spins create a mirror image close enough to the actual calendar, timetable or ”payout cycles” to reveal that the RNG’s have very little to do with when and what you can win in each spin.

    To really get your attention I will go on;
My program has a ”trace” function, and this function can be used on any online slot where enough clicks/spins have been recorded. What it does is it will trace each real, live click/spin, and in only 10 to 20 spins my program can tell me what slot I have chosen to play, without me letting the program know anything about the slot I am actually playing. This would be impossible if every spin was truly totally random, and it would also be impossible if the odds where exactly the same for each spin (if we take the gambler out of the picture regarding the odds). And here is a funny thing, it would be totally impossible if there were no ”payout cycles”, since those are the most important part of the ”trace” function, among with the grading system it uses.

You might wonder how I manage to get this to work, so I will reveal that I am using a grading system containing levels of how much I win or lose in each spin. Of course, this will also include bonus rounds, scatter and free spin bonus rounds. This you will se in the screen shots of the statistics attached to this e-mail. You will also find the questions attached in the form of a PDF document.

I am looking forward to your answer!

    Kind regards, Michael Ericsson, Sweden.

Re: Is the slot machine RNG Truly Random and Do Slot Machines Have Payout Cycles?

    Hi Michael:

The information in my videos only applies to gaming machines in the U.S. that are played in states where there is a regulatory agency that inspects the machines. All of the regulations regarding how electronic gaming machines are required to operate are a matter of public record in these states and you, or any other member of the public, is free to view them.

I am not a computer programmer. I am only a journalist in the field of gambling. I have done extensive interviews with slot machine manufacturers and regulatory agencies to arrive at the conclusions shown in my videos.

I am also an avid casino gambler that likes to play video poker, which, as you know, is also a game that uses a random number generator to determine the outcome. I have been playing video poker for more than 20 years and I have no reason to doubt that the results produced by those machines are created randomly.

I also know many video poker players who are able to consistently make money by playing the game and this would not be possible if the outcomes were not truly random.

Therefore, I firmly believe that the information in my videos is factually correct. The result of each play on an electronic gaming machine is independent of what has happened in the past and there are no "payout cycles," unless you are referring to machine that is required to payout a progressive jackpot before it reached a certain point.

I wish you the best of luck in your research and much success with your book.

    Sincerely,

    Steve Bourie
