First, I'm not here to defend anybody.

My friends & I spend more $$$ (anywhere between $500 to more than $1000 ; that's many ACG books) every year buying ACG books than LVA-POV books because ACG is a whole lot cheaper than LVA-POV's subscription.

My friends & I do use the ACG's "2-for-1 buffet" & "matchplay" coupons that are in the books --> so I don't mind if ACG is big in size or not --> it's all about the cost (1-ACG book is nearly as valuable as 1-LVA-POV book).

Not really (& depends on how you use those books ; for "2-for-1 buffets" or for "matchplay" coupons).

Yes, LVA-POV does have some coupons that ACG does not have ; that's fine with me (then I just don't visit them that often or don't get my business).

Forgot to compare them this way :

3 x ACG ~ $33 (look at other online stores for that price-shipped)

          1 x LVA-POV ~ $37 (online-version)

That's why almost all of my local friends rather buy the ACG's than the LVA-POV.

I only buy about 3 (or 4-max) of the LVA-POV per year.

            Limit is 2 per year

The coupons are not tradeable either.

Why many like ACG better is because you can trade and abuse the hell out of the coupons. We prefer to have the coupons around for awhile thats why we do not ABUSE them like so many others do. Its always the minority that wreck it for the majority. Just like you buying more than the limit of POV's. One day that will change thanks to YOUR abuse

Since I don't like to lose, I have to make another response.

Tell me, how is it "abuse" if the casino allows a person to visit their casino everyday & use a coupon (1-per day) ??

              Here's some examples :

              1) Ellis Island: 1-matchplay per day (they don't care if one visits them everyday, 365-days of the year).

              2) Terribles: 1-matchplay per day (they don't care if one visits them everyday, 365-days of the year).

              3) Sahara : 1-matchplay per day (they don't care if one visits them everyday, 365-days of the year).

              4) Poker Palace: 1-matchplay per day (they don't care if one visits them everyday, 365-days of the year).

              5) and so on.

              -----

Oh, I do buy 2-LVA POV books (which is their limit per household).

But for me to obtain more than the allowed 2-LVA POV books, I just give my friend(s) the $$$ to go to the LVA office & buy the extra books for me [ IT"S NO BIG SECRET ; I'M SURE MANY PEOPLE ARE AWARE OF THIS & DO THIS ; AND I'M SURE THE LVA OFFICE DO WANT TO MAKE SOME EXTRA $$$ FROM PEOPLE ].

You can explain or DEFEND until you are blue in the face...ABUSE is ABUSE and in MY OPINION, you are abusing the coupons. It will be the people like YOU that will wreck it for us who use them once or twice a year. So "THANKS" in advance for wrecking and ABUSING the coupons and the POV membership rules of 2 per person.

                    Happy New Year

No need to reply. But if you do try to reply without defending what you call NON abuse

billybabe, there is no reason for you to continue the arguement. You made your point about the coupon book idea, the ACG won't do it. It's done. There is no need for a flame war here.

Personally, I like the ACG as it is. I don't need to carry it around with me. My wife and I plan our day, take the coupons that will apply, and use them if the situation arises. I have never had a problem redeeming coupons, and most Casino personnel smile as they thank me for playing/choosing their casino.

And yes, I agree with you billybabe, I buy the ACG for the coupons. I first bought the 2008 version after reading positive reviews on the web and figured I could save more money on food and beverage than it would cost me to buy the book.

But I found the book to be an incredible read. I liked the rules and strategies in the beginning, the write-ups on the casinos in Vegas and Michigan (my home state), even the little bits about gaming regulations in each state. All in all, I saved money on my vacation AND I got several hours of enjoyment soaking up the casino stats and trivia in the book. All in all, it's a GREAT publication, and I bought and read 2009.

The ACG is just fine the way it is. Besides the coupons, I enjoy the gambling reads.
And, I've never had a problem with any coupons not being accepted because they "weren't attached" to a book.
Steve, keep up the good work, on all our behalf. It's appreciated.

It is not abuse if a casino says one a day and you use one a day. To think it is is simply stupid.
Since this guy can't figure that out, I guess he would never think to simply take a knife and cut out the Vegas coupon section from the rest of the book. Now the book is some 80% smaller and lighter.
I get both the LVA and the ACG. Two very different animals and am pretty happy with both.

I agree the ACG is the best casino publication around bar none.

The issue is the lack of communication between the casino promotion and marketing department and the floor staff. The Las Vegas Advisor requires the coupon to be removed from the book in the presence of the casino employee, the ACG requires the ID card from the book to be presented along with the coupon. Some casinos don't bother, they just take the coupon no questions asked. Herein lies the confusion.

Example is Ellis Island. They now require out of state ID, and the book with LVA and the Card with ACG, and a players club card.

Some casinos run multiple promotions, and the requirements of usage differ. So, the staff might ask to see the book. That's all. Yes it is an inconvienience to lug the book around if you're cabbing it. I keep mine in the car since we hardly ever fly anymore. I'm sick of cavity searches and interrogation from the airport staff, and I don't like anyone to go through my luggage.

It used to be way better to fly.
