Video poker comparison

Can anyone tell me which downtown casino is best for video poker? I am staying at the Main Street Station. And supposedly there is a walkway to the Californian??? Which would be the better one to play at??? Thanks

Both have decent video poker but the MSS gives scratch-off tickets for each four of a kind or better. While the value of these tickets is usually a single digit dollar number the tickets add value and a little excitement. I am assuming MSS still has the scratch-off tickets as I live in Indiana and I have not been to Vegas since March 08. My reads indicate to me that El Cortez has the best video poker downtown but you will have to walk to the other end of the downtown casino area to get there.

Main Street Station has had the scratch-off tickets for many years.

The minimum you can win is $2 and about 95% of the cards you will get are for $2.

I play there whenever I vist Vegas. I bring my laptop along because they have free wirless internet in the lobby. I catch up on all of my email and then I play some video poker.

The buffet is good and they also have have a good brewery/restaurant.

They keep sending me offers in the mail for two or three free nights, plus some free food and 2x points. I haven't been able to use the offers, but they do seem somewhat liberal with their mailers.

I have heard that if you stay there you should ask for a room that is not near the railroad tracks.

'Course it depends on "best".

99.6% on jacks or better with approx 1 % slot club return is better than 100.2% or 100.3% with .2% slot club return.

Four Queens has a progressive bank that is reset at about 100.2% and is perhaps the best "return" (particularly when it reaches, say, $1500 - which it does regularly). Good luck in finding a seat.

I'd stay at MSS and skip the walk to the El Cortez for decent VP. Most of the good stuff was gutted. Then some was put back in when Bob Dancer offered his classes there, and pulled back out immediately after he left.
Also, free room offers have been drastically reduced if you wait for mailers. Even my VP buddy who pours enough in the machines to have a host comp rooms does not get mailings that amount to much. And she has pretty much quit the El Cortez as they took out her Kings or Better Joker Poker full pay and the bar JOB 9/6. El Cortez is still the best for cheap, single deck BJ, has great craps odds on as little as a $3 bet, and has one of the most unique low roller live poker games in Vegas. But if you are going for VP, save yourself the trip.

If you like to play at a bar, there are few places left where you can play 9/6 JOB at a bar,(none left at El Cortez) but MSS is one of those and while you play, they will comp you with pints of microbrew like Black Chip Porter. Yummy. Just don't have so many that when you hit a 4OAK, you forget to stop and ask for a scratch off ticket.
