According to an Associated Press story dated July 21, 2011, 26-year-old Matthew Eisenberg formerly worked as a poker dealer at The Rivers Casino near Pittsburgh.
He was fired, however, after the casino's video surveillance team caught him attempting to surreptitiously take $1 and $5 chips from some poker pots. They estimate he stole a total of about $200.
On July 20 Eisenberg pleaded guilty to the theft and was sentenced by a judge to one year of probation and a $75,000 fine.
According to Eisenberg's attorney, the fine is required under state gaming laws.
Sounds to me like an awful lot of money to be fined for such a petty crime! However, keep in mind he was actually stealing from the players and not the casino.
