  • VP Cashback heading south?

    Hi everyone.

Last week, I decided to review my gambling spreadsheets for the last few years. I play video poker and a little slots in Atlantic City. Without giving specific numbers, I found my cashback and bounceback in 2007 was about half of what it was in 2006.

My cashback and bounceback so far this year are about half what they were in 07. Not surprisingly, I find myself visiting the casinos a lot less often.

Are others seeing this too? What are you doing about it?

I live in south Florida and right now we have machines at the Hard Rock, plus three pari-mutuel tracks.

If you think your cashback and comps are bad, you ought to try gambling here. It's horrible.

If you gamble at Gulfstream there are no comps and in order to get $10 in cashback, you have to put $20,000 through a machine (slot or video poker machines count the same).

At the Hard Rock there is no cashback, only comps. They will give you $5 in comps for every 2,000 points you earn on your card. You earn 1 point for every $1 played on a slot machine, or $2 played on a video poker machine. So to get $10 in comps you need to bet $4,000 on slots or $8,000 on video poker.

Even with these horrible slot club benefits people are still playing the machines! Personally, I prefer to watch rather than play, unless there is some sort of beneficial promotion that makes it worthwhile. However, it is very rare for that to happen.

I have heard that is true in AC and I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind what's going there. But I think Las Vegas is a totally different story, at least currently!

Due to economic downturns and a multitude of other reasons, casino offers, promotions, bounce back, room offers, etc., are higher then I have ever seen in Las Vegas in my 14 years of living here.

Arizona: The same is true in Arizona casinos where I play. In fact my BB cash is less than half of what it was last year for similar play. I receive more mailings, but they're for smaller amounts. I now go less often but play longer when I'm there. Casino Del Sol has low denomination triple and 5-play for NSUD and 9/6JOB. Even though they only give half the points for video poker as they do for slots they're good about comps, show tickets (although just two tickets per visit regardless of the mailed offers) and send extra food comps. Good Italian restaurant and there are a few things I'll eat at the snack bar. Nice staff.

Laughlin: Receive lesser cash offers in the mail this year, although room comps are easy. Some casinos offer fewer slot points for positive video poker games (Edgewater) and River Palms won't let you use your free play on the FPDW machines. (Told it's because they're coin-droppers.) Less cash at Golden Nugget, but it's okay since there's only one halfway decent play left. Linda
