  • Matchplay - free slots - best strategies?

Realizing that the ACG matchplay matchplay coupons allow only even money bets which do you usally play: (1) 3:2 blackjack, (2) craps pass bet or (3) roulette red

With the $10 free slot play coupons do you swing for the fences with $1 3-line reelers (or Megamillions at max coin) or go conservative with JOB 9/6 VP

Going to LV in December and just wondered?

I always play my MP's at the BJ table. While the payback on the coupon is 'even money', I still have the possibility of making a 'double' or a BJ on my own money bet.

And ... a simple $5 MP bet, getting dealt 21 (BJ) is supposed to be paid $12.50 ($7.50 + $5) ... I have been over-paid on that BJ win MANY times !!!

When I get the matchplays, I always play blackjack because I'm in and out quickly.

When I get the free play, I treat it like real money and play VP because the payback % is better, and I'm more likely to come away with some money. Good luck in Las Vegas and good luck finding any decent VP on the strip.

Buddha, weren't you the guy that was giving me a bunch of crap about hypothetically exploiting a slot machine that credited more than it should have.

So, according to you, if the mistake is made to a smaller degree then it's ok to keep the money, huh ?! Nice little double standard you have going there !

Funny thing is that.....I completely agree with your approach and ethics with the matchplays.

PS: Those patrons at the Caesars Indiana were never prosecuted mainly due to the fact that the flaw was entirely the casino's fault and not caused by a customer.

So far I've always used them for BJ but wondered if that was the smartest play.

As for VP - I know about Henderson, Boulder Strip North Vegas, and maybe downtown so no need for the Strip for anything except the shows.

          Thanks for the advice

NO STANDARDS, GIVE THEM BACK !!! Honesty is the best policy.

              BIG difference, Mike !!

Purposely putting money into a known defective slot machine, with the purposeful intent of cheating the casino with an erroneous cash-out is called stealing.

I sat down at the BJ table with the innocent purpose of playing a legal MP coupon. It is not my job to train the dealers. In fact, there have been three occasions where I actually tried to explain the correct payout to Asian dealers that had very limited understanding of the English language. There were a couple times where the pit boss was standing 10 feet away, and the dealers did not ask for help.

              Not my problem .....

Good god, don't tell me that you actually tried to give back the extra five bucks, three times ?!

Darn......just when I was starting to think that you weren't a total square.

Let me guess....you donated the extra payoffs to charity !

Re: Matchplay - free slots - best strategies?

a couple of years ago I asked the Wizard of Odds this question (matchplays) and the BEST bet to make with a matchplay if it has to be even money is CRAPS DONT PASS

Roulette isnt even in the equation and you lose hands in blackjack more often than on the dont pass making the coupon less valuaable as it is worth $0 if you lose.

Re: Matchplay - free slots - best strategies?

You are looking at this all wrong.

You cannot say something has a 'value' of zero if you lose. The value is based on the chance of winning and having your bet doubled and therefore the payout is based on that doubled bet. If you were going to play anyway and you lose the hand/spin/roll, you have lost no more than if you had bet without the MP.

I do not know if the CRAPS DON'T PASS line is a better bet than playing a hand of BJ (what payout/rules?) or Roulette (what wheel?), but using a MP on a game with worse odds does not reduce its value to zero.

Re: Matchplay - free slots - best strategies?

Don't Pass/Come (1.4%) is a tad better than Pass/Come(1.41%). The problem with playing BJ is you don't get paid 3/2 if you snag a snapper so that costs you 2.3%, plus the normal vig. Roulette double zero 5.24%, single zero 2.4%.

But is your time worth more than the few cents you give up for than $2/5/10 Match Play? Roulette is painless, 10 seconds for the outcome to be decided.

On BJ you might irritate other players or have to wait for a shuffle. On Craps the outcome of your bet might take several minutes to win or lose.

                        Iam4jacks ...

Hitting a BJ 'snapper' does NOT 'cost' you anything. You still get paid 3/2 on your money bet, and ALL coupons only pay even money, no matter what the game is. Plus you also have the opportunity to catch a split, or a double on your money bet.

Re: Matchplay - free slots - best strategies?

Re: I am looking at this all wrong - a mp is not worth 0 if you lose.

That is not what I meant - A $5 mp is in theory worth about $2.30 to $2.45 depending on what game you play. HOWEVER IN REALITY IT IS EITHER WORTH $5 if you win and $0 if you lose.

Therefore a bet where you have a 47% chance of winning is BETTER than a game where you have a 43% chance of winning, even if in the case of the 43% chance you have the opportunity to double down and so forth.

CRAPS DONT PASS STILL REMAINS THE MATHEMATICALLY BEST BET

HOWEVER I TEND TO AGREEE with whoever said any match play is a positive return so it might be easier to play it on roulette with a 5.26 house advantage for the convenience factor.

In the past I never played my mps on roulette unless they were roulette specific but in the future I may do so for that very reason.
