LAS VEGAS – Official hotel sponsor for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR), the Plaza Hotel & Casino will host downtown Las Vegas’ first and only practice arena and stalls presented by Heel-O-Matic. The Plaza will also offer live NFR viewing parties, free shuttle service and numerous drink and food specials during the 10-day event.
A 100 ft. x 240 ft. practice arena with 120 VIP stalls and 24-hour security will be located right outside the Plaza, in the heart of downtown Las Vegas. Team roping practice will be held daily Dec. 4-16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with grade A and B live steers or Heel-O-Matic’s Ultimate Ground Driven Trainer available for use. Additional holding pens are available for rough stock.
“Throughout its 35-year history, the Plaza has been a destination for rodeo fans,” said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza. “Back in the day, horses were sold in the Plaza’s ballroom, and the property’s decor had an old-style horse theme. While times and styles have changed, rodeo fans will still feel at home at the Plaza. We are building downtown’s only practice arena and stalls to make it convenient for guests to house and exercise their animals, just steps from their hotel room. Coupled with viewing parties, live entertainment, and shuttles – all for free – as well as various food and drink specials, the Plaza is the place to be for NFR.”
Roy Cooper, Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame member who won eight world championships, including six in tie-down roping, agreed. “Nowhere else in downtown Las Vegas can you find the great amenities that the Plaza is offering. The Plaza has really stepped up – especially by building an arena and stalls – all to make cowboys like me feel at home.”
Guests staying at the Plaza can reserve two stalls and trailer/truck parking at a special rate. Reservations for these affordable hotel packages can be booked online or by calling Linnea Mitchell at 702-786-5244.
Total Equine feed, shavings and orchard/alfalfa hay will be available for purchase on-site with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Sandy Valley Future Farmers of America Chapter.
Every night of NFR, the Plaza will host a free viewing party in its new Plaza Events Center, which has 18 large high-definition television screens and seats up to 400 guests.
Guests attending NFR can take advantage of the Plaza’s free shuttle service to the Thomas & Mack Center offered nightly from 5 to 7 p.m. and returning 9 to 10:30 p.m., in time for the Plaza’s NFR After Parties with live entertainment in the Omaha Lounge on the casino floor.
Oscar’s steakhouse, known for its perfectly aged steaks cooked over a 600-degree grill, will have three special menus items during NFR: a special braised short rib over country grits with fried onions, a slow roasted prime rib with loaded mashed potatoes and green beans, and a Whiskey BBQ glazed sirloin steak with baked potato and Brussel sprouts, each for $35. Reservations for dinner are recommended and can be made online at www.oscarslv.com or by calling 702-38-OSCAR (386-7227).
The Plaza’s casino bars will also have several drink specials, including: “Outlaw” shots of Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey or Jim Beam Bourbon for $3; a “Gussied Up Shot” of Gentleman Jack Whiskey for $5; and “Cowboy Brews,” bottles of Coors Banquet, Coors Light or Miller Light beers for $3 each.
