  • Harrah's in Reno Offering Bill Harrah’s Centennial Celebration

Reno, Nev. – Before there was Caesars, or Paris, or The Rio, there was the Harrah’s Bingo Club which opened in Reno in 1937. Founder of Harrah’s Hotels and Casinos, Bill Harrah, believed “to be successful, you have to do things in the right way.” And successful he was. His lone bingo hall started an empire, a Caesars empire. Bill Harrah would have turned 100 years old this September 2, and we are pulling out all the stops to celebrate his Legacy by throwing a monumental 100 day birthday bash.

“The only fitting way to celebrate such a man is to throw the biggest summer-long birthday party Reno has ever seen,” said Jesse Keaveny, Director of Marketing for Harrah’s Reno. The 2011 Bill Harrah Centennial Celebration is exclusive to Harrah’s Reno and comes complete with special entertainment, gaming tournaments, and a host of events, parties, and giveaways bigger than ever. Harrah’s Reno will be decked out with memorabilia and tributes to Mr. Harrah all summer long and every weekend will have special themed events to honor Bill Harrah, and help bring his legacy back to life. It will be a 100 day celebration leading up to his birthday blowout party, taking place over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

The Bill Harrah Centennial Celebration features a $165,000 slot tournament series, sophisticated Seven Stars® and Diamond renewal dinners, a $25,000 Blackjack Tournament series, an extensive summer-long outdoor concert series, as well as other extraordinary entertainment and captivating events designed to celebrate the casino mogul.

The Mayor of Reno, Bob Cashell will proclaim September 2, 2011 Bill Harrah Day with a ceremony taking place at Harrah’s Reno. Many other fun events and presentations will take place over the Labor Day weekend celebrating the life of Bill Harrah.

In the meantime, guests can find the Harrah’s Reno casino decked out with memorabilia such as vintage posters featuring famous entertainers from the past, antique slot machines and gaming tables, as well as a few samples from the extensive collection of Mr. Harrah’s automobiles.

As the featured entertainment of the centennial, Harrah’s Reno is thrilled to present “Sammy: Celebrate the Legacy, featuring David Hayes,” on stage in the legendary Sammy’s Showroom July 1 through September 23, 2011.

This incredible Sammy Davis Jr. tribute is a perfect choice for the centennial. Sammy Davis Jr. was, without a doubt, one of Mr. Harrah’s most cherished entertainers, so much so that the Harrah’s Reno showroom was re-named in his honor. David Hayes brings Sammy back to life performing with a packed stage full of remarkable musicians.

In addition to his spot on impression of Sammy Davis Jr., David is a gifted drummer, pianist, guitarist, banjo player, tap dancer, impressionist, and song writer. Sammy Davis Jr. once said, “That was the BEST singing impersonation of me that I have ever heard,” speaking of performer David Hayes. Many of the band members performing in this tribute toured with the great Sammy Davis Jr. for many years. To put the finishing touches on this authentic recreation, many of Sammy’s original music charts will be used for this must-see show. Tickets can be purchased online at www.harrahsreno.com.

As part of the summer-long festivities focused around the Bill Harrah’s Centennial Birthday Celebration, Harrah’s Reno is rolling out a huge sizzling summer concert series. The perfect venue to enjoy a warm summer night, Harrah’s Reno is proud to offer a concert series that includes performances every Saturday night through September 24.

With a lineup of great bands, outrageous décor, monster drink specials, go-go dancers, and bags full of raffle prizes, the Harrah’s Plaza will provide a concert experience like no other. For 18 long weeks of summer, the Harrah’s Reno Plaza is the place to be on Saturday nights!

A full list of events and entertainment schedules can be found at www.harrahsreno.com using the Centennial Celebration link, which can be found in the entertainment section.

This is the year to visit Harrah’s Reno, the birthplace of Caesars entertainment, and celebrate the man that started it all!
