  • Anyone from Portland, OR?

Spirit Airlines will begin service between Portland and Las Vegas on 9/22. Beginning today and tomorrow a very limited # of $9 one way fares will be available. Check their website for availability.

Be careful when doing business with Spirit. That company will find any way they can to screw you over.

They have a lot of hidden fees, including seat and baggage fees.

In order to get those $9 fares you will have to join their club which costs $59.95 per year.

I joined two years ago when it was only $39.95 They automatically renewed me at $59.95 and never told me. I did not want to renew and disputed it with my credit card company. I had the charge refunded.

I also had 20,000 miles in their frequent flyer club which automatically expired. They make it almost impossible to speak to anyone if you have a problem. Their phones are staffed by call centers in India and those people don't have a clue how to resolve a problem. Believe me, I tried talking to them. Very, very frustrating.

The company philosophy seems to be to tout low fares, but they really aren't that low when the other charges are taken into consideration. For example, you can't take a bag onto the plane unless you are willing to pay for that privilege. Plus, they have zero customer service.

In a nutshell, avoid Spirit whenever you can. If you have to fly them be prepared to pay for everything, including $2 for a can of coke.
