Tunica Trip In The Planning Stage

We're talking about a trip to Tunica within the next month.

I enjoy playing live poker and the wife enjoys the amenities of the hotel. We both are reasonably well versed in playing video poker.

I've tried to research a little and right now am leaning towards Sam's Town. Would appreciate any insight anyone has.

The only thing I remember about the area is that you have to drive from one casino to another.

Hi,
I was in Tunica last July and stayed at the Horseshoe on the way out for a sister's road trip and stopped at Sam's Town on the way back home. For me, I enjoyed the room at the Horseshoe better because they had refrigerators in the rooms and Sam's Town did not, also the Horseshoe just seemed to be a bit more updated. It is also right next to the Gold Strike and the Sheraton so it was very easy to go in and out of those 3 without having to travel. Sam's Town does have the Hollywood and another casino across the street but it's a good long walk to get there without having to drive over.
Other than using a coupon from ACG for a buffet at the Fitz, we didn't get to any other casinos.

Enjoy the trip wherever you stay.

Finally settled on Harrah's. In browsing found that I could get a Tuesday for 2 cents if I booked Monday and Wednesday. So, got all three nights for about $110.

There's a poker room. Doesn't look like the video poker is the best. Am going to change my computer tutorial to reflect the pay scale of one of the quarter machines available and practice before I play. Have to give up 3/4 of one percent but them's the breaks.

Saw on the website that they have coffee makers in the rooms so will have breakfast there. Probably will try Paula Deen buffet, Hollywood buffet, and Sam's Town Buffet. Maybe play for a while at Sam's Town (per Steve's comments in his trip report).

Going to try to spend some time at Mud Island and at MLK museum in Memphis.

Will let everyone know how much fun we had after the fact.

The video poker is better at Sheraton. Since it's a Harrah's property you could do your video poker play there if you need to put points on your Harrh's Total Rewards card.

The last time I was in Tunica (May 200 they had a casino shuttle going to all the casinos. It was only a dollar or two with two or three shuttles running with a convenient schedule posted.

That trolley is no longer in operation.

I only play live poker.

I found it hard to keep a full table at limit poker games. They too often let people go for a couple hours and hold up seats.

The Horseshoe gave easy comps for food. Just ask even if you have not played many hours. There were some points put on my card, but the food comps seemed to be separate.

Sam/s Town gave points also and those were good in that buffet. The buffet was fine. In the morning they were running a promotion. Anyone playing 2 hours 8-10 am got 20 dollars. That meant there was a full table at 8 and it lasted the two hours at least.

I liked Sam's Town and the one night I played at Hollywood, but I like the 3-6 games rather than the 4-8.

Gold Strike was nice but I was there at tournament time the the hard competition even overflowed into limit games.
