  • My report on using the $25 matchplays

$25 Sahara matchplay- this one was easy to use, the blackjack dealer allowed me to use this coupon without even asking the pit boss, nor did the dealer ask for my slots card or the ACG membership card.

$25 Westin Casuarina matchplay- this one had a little more scrutiny, though still accepted rather easily. The pit boss did ask for my player's slot card and did something in the computer before allowing me the use of this coupon. The pit boss mentioned something about getting a lot of action from other people as well using this same coupon. The pit boss and the blackjack dealer were appreciative of my bet that I made for the dealer, which I always make when using a matchplay coupon. They said that most people hit and run without so much of a leaving a tip, to say the least (LOL).

$10 Long Horn matchplay- according to the blackjack dealer this one would not be accepted without the ACG book. I had pre-cut out the coupon ahead of time and left the ACG book at home. So, I was not able to use this coupon.

Hopefully Steve can call his contact there as this is unacceptable to expect a patron to carry a 496 page book into a casino with them in order to use a coupon. It's reports like this that will keep me away from a casino because I can't handle dealing with that sort of crap, especially when they are wrong for requesting to see the book.

On a good note it will allow me to skip this dump on my next trip (like I did on my last trip)

It sounds like an isolated incident as I haven't heard of anyone else having a problem with the coupon at that casino.

Do you go there often to use that coupon?

I'll try to be provide as much detailed information as possible here. In 2009, I had one MRB coupon book and two ACG coupon books. I can not recall, even remotely, exactly when I visited the Long Horn in order to use matchplay coupons, but I would guess that in early 2009, around January or February, I used the MRB matchplay and free ace coupons. Then, maybe during the summer of 2009 I used one of the ACG matchplay coupons and then in early December I believe I used my other ACG matchplay coupon. For 2010, this was my first visit to Long Horn to try to use the matchplay. I was told that I needed the book in order to play the matchplay coupon. The dealer was polite, courteous, and stated it "matter-of-factly." The dealer was a male, Caucasian, approximately 30-40 years old. The pit supervisor was not consulted and the dealer made the decision on his own accord. I'm not the kind of person to argue a point especially when "management reserves all rights," so I retracted my coupon and withdrew my money. I intended to buy-in for $50. Oh, and also, during the summer of 2009 when I tried to use the ACG matchplay, I was told at that time as well that I needed the ACG book at that time too. I believe that I made a return trip during that same summer of 2009 and was later able to use the ACG matchplay without the book. I do not have a scheduled trip in the near future but next time I return to the Long Horn to use the matchplay, I will be bringing my book along just in case.

---------------I am surprised that the dealer took the MP since the coupon states "Present this coupon at the Club Sahara desk to receive your matchplay voucher".

Since Ellis when the BJ pit boss Pete started asking for the book, I've been just packing the coupon part of it everywhere. I don't even cut the coupon out until I get the okay. I guess this might annoy some dealers, but if I take the trouble to bus to a location, I want to use my coupon.
I know the plan is that the card covers this. Some places this is all that's asked.
Perhaps Ellis is lose now that they have a policy of one coupon a year recorded on the player's card. And did I read that if you try two in the same year you will be escorted out of the casino?
            Harsh.

Down here wintering in Tampa I solved the problem I forgot the entire book. My neighbor will bring me the coupon and my card for a later visit, so I'll report how that goes.
