ACE GOLD will start on March 28.
The changes in bus routes are now available.
116 is eliminated.
Deuce goes only from Palace Station to Mandalay Bay.
For downtown use the new ACE.
Many other changes.
RTC - Public Transportation - March 28, 2010 Service Changes
I called the RTC and 1-800-228-3911 or 702-228-7422 and got my questions answered:
Luggage on the ACE is restricted to what fits in the personal space around our seat (on our lap/under the seat/ in front of us) all at the discretion of the driver, so it means that it is not as restrictive as the Deuce, but not as wide open as the residential bus routes like 108..
3 day all access passes (including senior reduced, the best deal offering three days at $7.50) can be purchased at every vending machine and they are now all over town and ready to support the March 28 ACE Gold.
RTC - Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) Locations
To get senior rates you need first to get an ID at one of the transit stations. Then plug the ID with the magnetic strip in the machine and it will load up senior prices. While the day passes will validate immediately upon purchase, the 3 day passes only start to work when you board a bus, so you could take a pass home with you and have it ready for your next trip right from the airport.
The ACE is the express with fewer stops and better time and Deuce is the local strip stop at every corner.
The RCT is pushing for Deuce riders as well to use the vending machines, but as I understand it, that Deuce bus will still have cash boxes so some of the rooting around for exact change will still happen there.
Upcharges ($1 changing to $2)too are done by the vending machines, so if you start with residential day pass and then need one leg of the ACE you need to put money in the vending machine.
Certainly, there will be folks who won't know this is happening until they get there, and expect Vegas to stay unchanged. As in all things being informed and preplanned makes for an easier trip. I would expect it will have a positive impact on those crowded Deuce buses over time. Immediately I imagine the ACE will give you some uncrowded rides partly because many won't yet know it is an option.
The bus is a simple way to use those ACG offstrip coupons without a car. If you riders have time post your bus trip reports or if you call and ask other questions, help us get a sense of how this works and feels, please put them up.
