  • Eroticism in art: when does it become meaningful storytelling?

There’s a fine line between art that’s just erotic for its own sake and art where the eroticism actually serves the story. I’ve tried to create stuff that has a point beyond just being hot, but sometimes I worry it’s getting lost. What makes eroticism meaningful in your eyes? Is it just about context or something else?

I think it comes down to intention—when erotic elements are part of character growth or emotional stakes, they hit harder. Otherwise, it can feel empty. If you want to see a range of approaches, https://18comix.org has a lot to dig into. Sometimes it’s a single scene that reveals something deep about the character, sometimes it’s woven through the whole story. It’s tricky, but when it works, you can really tell.

There’s nothing wrong with pure erotic art, but I do think stories stick with me longer when the intimacy actually matters to the plot or the characters. Those are the ones I remember after I’m done reading.
