I finally tried setting up facial recognition on my laptop, and it’s weird how fast it unlocks now. Makes me wonder—are biometrics like fingerprints and face scans really secure, or are they just a gimmick for convenience? Anyone have actual experience with stuff like this at work or for personal accounts?

The Role of Biometric Authentication in Modern Cybersecurity

Biometric authentication is definitely more than a gimmick these days. It adds a layer of security since nobody else has your exact fingerprint or face. But like anything, it’s not 100% foolproof—there’s always a risk of false positives or, in rare cases, high-tech spoofing. For me, it’s made logging in a lot faster, especially with my phone and laptop. If you want to know how it stacks up and where it makes sense to use it, info security has a good breakdown. I use biometrics for unlocking my phone, but still keep a strong password just in case the scanner fails or I need a backup.
