My wife and I are considering opening a bar with slot machines in West Virginia. Where can I go to receive information, laws, ect.. on this type of business?
I doubt BARS with SLOTS are legal in WV (it's not Nevada/Vegas). I've never heard of JUST BARS having slots in any state with casinos.
Consult a Business lawyer.
Good thought though. How about ONLY a bar by itself ? All you'd need is a $200 Grand liquor license. With some backroom gambling on the sly ?
I don't know about the legality of slots in WV but I do know that bars in WI have video slots, not VLT's, and winners get paid in cash by the bar. I had heard that WI was considering allowing up to 5 slot machines as a means for the taverns to avoid losing customers to the Indian casinos. I don't know if that actually became law or if they are just looking the other way if the bars don't flaunt it by having more than 5 machines. I suspect it is officially not legal yet.
Some areas of Michigan have had VP machines for a while with payoffs under the table. A week or so ago, they raided 20 such establishments in Flint and the places face license revocation. They also raided a poker club which was a 'for profit' rather than a 'charitable' association.
