I agree, most people will not gamble away their IRA but 60 minutes claimed it was about 2 or 3%. I have seen people from time to time gamble away thousands of dollars and at the same time smoke discount cigarettes to save a dollar. What's wrong with that picture?

Another thought is that some people take on mortgages that they can not afford and then lose their house, others overextend their credit cards and can never pay back what they owe, and a third group takes out student loans for tens of thousands of dollars that they will be unable to pay back. These are all forms of gambling.
