The Orleans went up to $6 in April, but that does not count for comped rooms.
The Palms went up to $12.00 plus tax. Folks booked before the rise in fee report being charged anyway. If you are booked and do not know about this, start lobbying to be relieved of the obligation before you go. If you drink at the bar and pay, the resort fee gets you a $20 credit toward drinks, a unique amenity. Still, most of us drink for free in Vegas, so it is not that different from offering pool, parking, and whatever other free amenity they now offer to let you pay for with your resort fee.
Meanwhile, there are still some dates when the El Cortez is offering that deal that is perhaps the best example of the opposite of a resort fee. It is the antiresort fee deal.
In a resort fee, the people in the room pay for amenities which in most cases would be free were they not paying the resort fee. The fee is added to the room charge.
In the El Cortez room deal, the casino pays for amenities like food and gambling which are generally not otherwiser free. You rent a room and they give you the value of the room back to you in gambling and freeplay. Like a reverse resort fee.
So, I chose a Cabana suite in May, paid $120 total with tax for two nights and got $70 in freeplay and $50 in food credit. Call and ask it it fits your intended dates or when they might be releasing this deal for the months you intend for your next visit.

There is no pool at the El Cortez yet, but parking is free. Internet is only free if you have coffee at The Beat across the street. If you rent the Cabana, you get a free handful of candy as you pass thought the foyer. Also, you get a nice bottle of free Robert Montgavi red wine with the room to use at the Flame Steakhouse (where you might end up going to use up all those food comps.) You have to be dining for two for that coupon to work.
