Re: Fitzgeralds closing their doors in Reno
The Reno newspaper ran a story about this on October 1.
Fitzgeralds Casino/Hotel, a downtown Reno fixture since 1976, will close in two months for a two to three year renovation project... It is expected to reopen as a non-gaming boutique hotel, replacing the casino with shops, restaurants, convention space and an third-floor entertainment center.

Re: Fitzgeralds closing their doors in Reno
I remember when I first went to Reno (about 1980 or so), Fitzgeralds was fun because it had lots of nickel coin in - coin out slots. When you hit a jackpot (which was fairly frequently) and would have a payoff of may $7.50, 50 coins would drop into your hopper and the number of your machine would light up on a board as well as a light on your machine.
The change person would bring you a little paper bag filled with $5.00 in nickels and turn out your lights.
