Eastside Cannery - Hotels - Wizard of Vegas

The write is incorrect as far as the video poker - the best game is 9/6 JOB coin-droppers.

This is the first time I have ever read an article where the buffet was described as being excellent. YMMV.

      Re: Casino review: Eastside Cannery

These are generally great reviews. This one was a bit weak, but still very helpful.

As you mentioned, the video poker in the classics area was the worst omission.
No mention of the live poker room, where the 2-4 games are very attractive and the place is managed with some of the best I have seen anywhere.

The reviewer seemed to like the glass and the rooms as much as I did. But s/he did not mention the corner rooms which can often be had for the basic price just by asking. These have so much glass in them, another entire wall, and high up they offer great long distance views. Also, on price, I generally find $10 off the rack rate just by asking for the senior rate.
I also thought the tub was a great comfort. I took my first bubble bath in decades there on one trip.

Too bad the Latin lounge music was missed. That Claudine Castro show is really amazing as is the cheap microbrew they sell at the lounge making it probably the most inexpensive lounge in Vegas.

In the neighborhood review, I would add that right across the street is a Bank of America drive in teller. It is very convenient for replenishing bankroll with no fees if you have an account in that bank. Traveler's Checks are getting harder to find. If I did not have an account at Bank of America, I'd open one just for the Vegas trips.
Also, the Walmarts there is a great asset. It would be an easy walk to fill the room with snacks.

While the new buses were mentioned, they were down played; however, there is no need to have a car to go out Boulder anymore. That 202 Flamingo bus from the strip makes for a long ride, but it is convenient except very late at night. From downtown we can get to Sam's Town, just short of the Eastside Cannery in just 17 minutes on the HDX from downtown or can get dropped off right across the street on the slower BHX. Both buses easily accommodate luggage, so staying downtown for part of the trip and at the Eastside Cannery for another part is easy with no car needed. Catch either of these buses at stops between the Gold Spike and El Cortez. They schedule runs them often.

And the HDX gives us easy access to Henderson as well, for another explorative adventure.

And the BHX can get us quickly to Sunset Station.

I agree that the buffet is pretty basic, but there were a few things I liked very much, like the cookies. The buffet can be had for free after 4 hours or so of playing live poker.

The best part of this review was mention of the laundromat. I did not know they had those facilities which are rare in Vegas hotels. That alone may get me there in the middle of my next long trip for a couple nights of live poker and a chance to get the clothes caught up again.
