  • Mississippi Suggestions?

I am driving from Florida to Lake Charles, Louisiana to see those casinos and then up the Mississippi River to sample the poker rooms, wander, eat some good food, see a few sights. If anyone could be kind enough to share their favorite spots, with emphasis on live poker, I'd be much obliged.

I have Lake Charles covered as I have a friend who lives there and knows the local casinos and will put me up so hotels are not a factor in that area. When I leave him, however, and start exploring up the Mississippi to Missouri, I'll be on my own.

I won't go into St Louis, but swing East and head to Chicago, so my play will be concentrated in Mississippi and one casino in Caruthersville, Missouri.

I will play live poker almost exclusively.

I'm especially interested in where folks may have stayed cheap in Vicksburg and Greenville.
What would be comparable to Downtown LV prices in Mississippi areas? What are frugal alternatives to expensive rooms? I expect I can't stay as I do in Vegas for 20 dollars a night, but perhaps someone has an idea of how to trim those prices.

I am a very frugal traveler. Where would you stop for the absolute lowest prices in hotel rooms? Are there any casinos with poker rates for low level play? I am too old to just sleep in the van, but the more I save on rooms, the longer I can wander from game to game.

On the food end, I can be the most frugal with a cooler in the back of my van and a vegetable diet . But I'll abandon that whenever there is a buffet worth trying or something like that Memphis Interstate barbecue place. Not the high end, fancy, places, but those that reflect regional specialties or in some way seem special to folks who have been in these areas or live in them. I'll move away from casinos for some tourist travel if a place is worth giving up the poker.

Also, there may be lost leader come on food deals to attract gamblers where the value exceeds the cost. Or cheap breakfasts. Or graveyard specials. Poker room comps are sometimes available too.

Any suggestions would be helpful and give me things to explore on line before I go and leave my computer behind
