I'll tell you, Westie. I'm getting pretty discouraged. I just this past trip identified Sam's Town as a top destination and off they go to the highest bidder. I hope it is just a rumor.

Agree with u Dewey. Just spent eight nites in LV--5 at Sam's and three DT at GN. On the way home we decided that next time we skip DT stays and spend the whole trip on Boulder--likely split between Sam's and ESide and/or Boulder St. A sold Sam's would suck.

Lets hope their one source is mistaken. How do you feel about the area? I have been there 2x and was not concerned about the area. Am I in error about the area? I leave Sunday for the Gold Coast and Downtown before my last day at Silver Sevens.

Before anyone gets too nervous, I'd just like to point out the difference between blogging and news reporting. The entire impetus for the post was as follows:


"Our reason for heading to Sam's was inspired by a very unreliable rumor. We happened to strike up a conversation with a casino worker about Terrible’s' changeover to Silver Sevens. Unprompted, he announced Sam’s Town was the next major location to be sold off."


A single unnamed employee's opinion, at an unspecified casino, is the extent of the evidence presented. It could have been the VP of finance at Boyd Gaming, but it also could have been a change boy at Whiskey Pete's. (The implication is that it was a shift worker at Silver Sevens but this isn't clear.) The blogger her/himself considers the source "very unreliable".


Then the blogger finished out the article with a bunch of photos of Sam's Town.


I'm not saying it won't happen, but the real question is whether Sam's Town (a) is losing money for Boyd and (b) can make more money in someone else's hands or as some other use, given that the building and its associated physical and intangible property, as it currently exists, is a sunk cost, and changing it would be expensive. Even if (a) is true, (b) may not be.


In a city known for touts, tips, "sure things," and blowhards, may I gently suggest we all take a collective deep breath of smoke-filled casino air and decide for ourselves the extent to which this is a credible source.
