I don't think gambling is any worse than any other "vices" one can encounter in life.

People can be become addicted to many things and gambling is just one of them.

Whether it's *****, alcohol, smoking, or gambling, people need to be responsible for their actions and realize that they shouldn't become obsessed with something: do everything in moderation.

Unfortunately, there will always be people who can't control themselves. My wife had a friend who was addicted to the shopping channels. She would continuously buy stuff and never even open it when it arrived. Just watch the TV show "Hoarders" and you will see people who are compulsive.

Therefore, gambling really isn't any different than some of these other irrational compulsions.

However, in conclusion, I think the biggest fault in these situations is with the states that allow casino gambling and then do not have any programs in place to help people who become addicted. If you allow casinos in your state then you should fund programs to help the people who are adversely affected by it.

I think you are correct here Steve. People can abuse anything vice or hobby. There will always be a small percent of people who will miss use anything. And there will always be the the people who will oppose, or make illegal, things they don't agree with using that statistic for an argument.

I read a similar article in the AARP Magazine. It seems like some people are more prone than others. We all have our weaknesses.
