    Can casinos reduce payout when they know they are going to close?

    My friends were in Atlantic City over the 4th of July week. They were there for five nights. They heard about the casinos that are closing down. They went to ten different casinos, played the slots, and did not cash out even a $5 ticket.
    When casions are closing can they reduce the payout of slots to make up for some of their losses due to closing down? And would this have any effect on other casinos in the surrounding area?

    An interesting idea, however, I don't think a casino would do that.

    They would need to manually change the chips which would be a time consuming process. However, at Revel about 40% of the casino floor uses server-based gaming so they could just flip a switch to change those payout percentages.

    Also, in New Jersey the minimum payback percentage is 83% so they could not be set to less than that.
