  • Monte Carlo Resort Casino: Bang for the Buck

Ok so lets start by saying the title says it all. This is a great bang for the buck. I just recently turned 26 and I have been going to Vegas on and off for the last 14 years. I have stayed at Excalibur, Treasure Island, New York New York, and the Monte Carlo. This place is good for families with varying ages. I stayed here last summer for the first time with my wife's family vary in age from 15 - 75 and there was something to do for most of us. The one thing it lacked was an arcade but it is right across from Gameworks and New York New York has the ESPN Zone right next door. Also the pool has a nice setup and is private to hotel guests which is huge in my opinion.

The food here is not bad and we took advantage of the food court especially for brunch because there was never a breakfast. There is also a very good little fast food mexican place in the food court. I highly recommend the street tacos. Also the buffet is in my opinion your classic basic Vegas buffet. It has two chef stations to make whatever they have on the menu that day. When we went it was Philly Cheese Steaks made to order and a made to order stir fry and noodles station. Both were very good and the service was excellent both at the table and at the buffet. They do have a rather nice steak house that was a little pricey but has a constant customer basis. The Brew Pub had excellent "bar" style food and a good selection of beer plus the service was great. The waitress we had was fun and more than willing to crack a joke or explain a menu item.

The casino reminds me still of older Vegas compared to Planet Hollywood or Cesar's Palace. Yes I know CP has been around forever but they have some very modern casino areas. I did however enjoy the casino at MC late at night. It empties out a lot and you can get on any machine you pick. Also you seem to get better service from the waitresses. I would say however this is the area the casino could improve the most. There seemed to be maybe 10 waitresses on the floor and at times it was hard to get a drink. The bar however by sports betting area had great service and was a nice place to take a break at.

The table games in my opinion were very friendly especially during slow times. We have never really done table games before and we found the dealers more than willing to help and teach. Again this was during slow times but it was a very nice way to get broken into some table games.

The player's club card became a hassle after while. It seemed like their machines had a hard time reading them and they became demagnetized very easy. I learned this because my cell phone case kept doing it. Also it did not seem like you got much for joining their club. We made the best out of the $10 mp they offered at that time but that was all we really got. My in-laws played a lot of slots and by the time we left they received three free diners at the Brew Pub. Compare this to the free stay at the Harrah they got this time around and you wonder if MC's player's club has a value.

The hotel rooms were very basic but got the job done. The biggest upside to the rooms was the cleaning service. We took some online tips and left daily tips mixed between cash and chips. Our rooms were always extremely clean and our personal items were always untouched. I was very impressed. Also it is good to know that they do steam clean the floor of the rooms after nearly every check out it seemed like. We stayed for a week and it seems like they were always steam cleaning the floors before the next people checked in.

Overall it is a great place to stay if you are looking for a decent room with some cheap food options and a laid back casino. Would be great for a weekend. We are going back to Vegas again in June and staying at Planet Hollywood this time and I post a review when we get back.
