Why are slot machines at all indian casinos tighter than the machines in Las Vegas?

Why do indian casinos pay so much in fines for having their machines set to pay off at less than the legal limit? Is it cheaper to pay the fines?

I wasn't aware that some were caught with bogus paybacks.

I went thru a slump here in California. But lately I've hit some good wins. A $15,500 in October, $20,008 the day before Thanksgiving. $11,250 the day after Thanksgiving, $7,500 two weeks ago and yesterday a $22,500. All at the same casino.

Indian casinos are tighter than LV because they have limited competition. However if you take the bus to Indian casinos, most of them will give you free play money, often ranging from $10 to $25 for a 4 hr stay, and sometimes even more for birthdays & senior days. Overnight bus stays can get you $50 to $65 plus some discounted meals. This includes the UP of Michigan. Because I get substantial play on their money, I win more often on these trips despite the lower payback. Casinos in Vegas normally give very little free play and because of that I lose more there than at Indian casinos.

About the fines, I have heard too that they would rather pay the fine than set the payback higher. I'm not sure if that is substantiated or hearsay. It seems to me that they make enough so they don't have to set the machines to pay less than the legal amount. My question is, does the local news media give negative reports about the casinos in the interest of consumer protection, or are they afraid to lose advertising business from the casinos?

There are multiple possible answers to your question raf. First off, the indian casinos are usually located by themselves with not much other competition, so they can get away with being tighter, if that is in fact the case, because they are the only game in town. Secondly, they may not be subject to the same regulation as non-indian casinos, and thus can set the machines any way they want to. Thirdly, maybe it only SEEMS that the indian casinos are tighter just because of short term bad luck there.

No need to joke. Winnings continued yesterday. Put my first $100 in a Red/White/Blue $5 slot. Hit $9000.....10-12 spins later hit it AGAIN for another $9000.

Best streak I've had in 20 years.

Excellent question. I, too, wondered why in the dozens of articles in newspapers here in California concerning casinos, you never seen mention of playback percentages or consumer protection. All they ever write about is expansions and approvals for new casinos.

Considering how much money the media makes from them, it has to be the reason.
