  • Four Winds Casino: Terrible comps for BJ

They discriminate against Blackjack players here with the comps. Points don't carry over from one visit to the next. Table minimums are too high. Rules not good. The buffet is terrible. Attitudes of pit bosses are even worse.

Have you been there often? Sounds to me as if you had a bad one time experience ....

I play at Four Winds once or twice a month and, apparently, my experiences have been much different than yours.

I haven't seen any bias against BJ players (or table playes in general) at the Four Winds .... of course, it's been my experience most casinos don't give table players much in the way of comps unless they play for many hours a day and for $25 or more per hand. I have found the Four Winds to be more generous than that.

In any case, as far as I know the Four Winds (like most casinos) don't give any "points" at all to table players. So, yes, if you want a comp you do need to earn one on the day you play.

I usually buy in for $200-$300 and play from $5 to $25 a hand. I don't usually play for a long time but, over the last 3 years, if I stuck around and played for a while (i.e. a couple hours), I have requested and received buffet comps (usually for 2) at least 6 times. I have never been refused a buffet comp even when I was winning (which I have been approx 50% of the time). FYI - I have never expected/asked for a comp when playing less than $10 per hand. Just a couple weeks ago I received a buffet comp (for 2) after approximately two hours of play at $25 a hand; I was down only $100 at the time I requested the comps and, evenually, ended up on the plus side. It was a Saturday morning and the comp was good all day so my wife and I went to their fantastic Saturday evening Prime Rib and Seafood buffet (retail price $28 each). Not sure I would/should have expect any more ....

Not sure what rules you are used to playing but I think Four Winds' rules are reasonable. BJ pays 3 for 2 (better than the 6 for 5 so many Las Vegas casinos and others are moving to), dealer hits soft 17 (that seems to be normal now, isn't it?), can double after split, no surrender (is surrender a good play?), etc. What rules did you think were so terrible?

As far as table stakes, I find $5 minimums every weekday morning and often on weekend mornings as well .... sort of depends on how busy they are. Usually in the afternoon and on weekends they go to a $10 minimum which, again, seems to be normal for any casino which has good play as the Four Winds does ....

Pit bosses (and dealers) have always been friendly and professional with me as they seem to be with most players. But, I have seen them get snippy with some players .... always ones who had unreasonable expectations and/or ones who started with a bad attitude (i.e. arrogant/rude tone).

And, of course, I couldn't disagree with you more about the buffet .... my wife and I think it's great. Lots of good quality selections. We really don't care much for anyone's breakfast buffets (except the LeVillage Buffet at Paris in Las Vegas) but for lunch/dinner we haven't found very many casinos whose buffets equal Four Winds .... in Las Vegas, maybe the Wynn/Bellagio dinner buffets and Bally's Sunday Brunch. Again, makes me wonder what you expect for $14-16-18-22-$28 (depending on day/meal).

Only been there once, last Fall, but we found the buffet outstanding. Played VP, and it wasn't full pay, but where is it full pay anymore? Place is big--I mean BIG--and eveyone we dealt with was more than pleasant. We are looking foward to going back. Everyone has different experiences I guess.
