  • Black Bear Casino & Hotel: No flash or excitement

Was very disappointed in the "new" Black Bear. They have totally dropped the ball when they designed the interior of the casino. Very boring and colorless, like they built a warehouse and threw some slot machines and gaming tables in it. Where's all the colors and the flashing bright lights? Where's the wall coverings - pictures, murals, Native American items, anything at all? Two small TV's in the casino bar. Where's the big screen? There's a huge empty wall there just waiting for one. Was also disappointed in the slot machines. Very few of the modern, interactive, large progressive ones. The largest progressive jackpot I saw on any of the large displays above the machines was less than $2,000. What's up with that? They were pretty tight, also, didn't see many people winning - no shouts of joy or ringing machines. The hotel lobby - definitely not inviting. Like the casino - boring and colorless. Don't know where the millions of dollars spent went, but it sure wasn't on the interior design or decorating. Gawd awful sculpture thing on the walls when you come off the elevators on each floor in the hotel. Hurts your eyes to even look at it. Rooms were pretty good. Nice, large windows. Marble countertop and glass tile backsplash in the bathroom. Why they spent the extra $ for that, not sure. The pizza from the deli was very good and reasonable. The breakfast buffet was great. Large variety, hot and refilled constantly. So maybe to just go and stay there, without the gambling, would be okay. Oh, and the outside landscaping was really pretty. Good job there. And the majority of the staff were pretty nice and friendly. Will not be returning for another visit.
