  • Empire City at Yonkers Raceway

HORRIBLE...the ad tells you to go to lovely vernon west in Westchester where you can catch a cab or a bus to Empire City.

The cab stand looks like something from Petticoat Junction and has only TWO cabs. The bus runs once an hour. The town looks like crap with nothing but used furniture stores and laudromats.

When you to to Atlantic City they practically carry you to the casino and give you free food. Now that's service. SKIP THIS DUMP.

Thanks Steve, I was at Yonkers once for harness racing maybe 10 years ago. Not too far from the CT border. Mighta been a Verazzano bridge nearby too.

Great memories, but a short memory on my part. I did get free parking, free admission & free drink in the Clubhouse for our b'days from the GM there, one Sept. night. Wasn't very full that night.

We drove from Michigan & hit Saratoga Harness, Monticello (prior to any Indian gaming), Harness Hall of Fame, Vernon Downs (3/4 quarter mile track with CHUTES) & Verona (Boxing Hall of Fame), Turning Stone. Went south a bit to Pocono. Pretty sure we got to Brandywine that trip too.

If you are a video poker player, don't go to EMPIRE CITY, because the machines are VIDEO LOTTERY TERMINALS and not true poker machines as in ATLANTIC CITY which operate via a RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR.

These machines are all hooked up to a central computer in Albany. It is like playing a scratch off lottery ticket.
