  • The Golden Nugget: The Best of Downtown But.....

Ok, this is the best hotel downtown, but even with the shark tank and all of the glitter in the main areas, this is far from being the Venetian, or even the Mirage. The hotel itself has grown over time, so you are going to be walking down long halls, turning corners, then finding yourself in the original part of the hotel with smaller rooms, older bathrooms and an air conditioner that doesn't really work. And yet one floor down, and a bit over, you might be in the part built more recently with a larger room and a newer bathroom. The casino is comparable to anything on the strip...the newest slots and busy table games. But if you really want this, you should probably stay on the strip. If I'm downtown, I want a smaller casino, more locals (and not tourists and frat boys) and a little bit of historic grit around the edges. If you find yourself in the middle of the casino floor at the Nugget, you could really be at any of a dozen strip hotels, which may or may not be a good thing.
