  • Dania Jai-Alai: Used to be a fun place

Dania Jai-Alai used to be a lot of fun to go visit. Unfortunately, the place is now a ghost town and they are lucky if they get 100 people in there to watch the jai-alai games.

They also play live poker which I guess is the main source of income to keep the place open.

Dania Jai-Alai was bought out by Boyd Gaming (owner of Sam's Town, Coast Casinos and the old Stardust) several years ago and they were supposed to build a new facility with slot machines. However, the slots at the other three pari-mutuels in S. Florida haven't been too successful and Boyd put their plans on hold until things pick up.

I think the major problem is that the state has a 50% tax on all slot revenues and that is what is making it hard for the gaming companies to make any money.
