I happen to be paralyzed and in a wheelchair, but fly out several times a year to enjoy Downtown Vegas which for me is much more accessible, convenient and safer than getting around the Strip. I often venture into casinos alone as my friends do not share my interest in sportsbook wagering and I can only sit with them at 21 table for a couple of hours before I get restless. There is a lot to like about the Golden Nugget -- along with the El Cortez, it has my favorite sportsbook (Ed is an exemplary employee) that is always clean, up-to-date and provides a lot of wagering options, including futures. They also provide free drink tickets to the nearby bar which provides quality beverages prepared by expert mixologists (my friend loved her Pina Coladas). As an added bonus (for me anyways), the Golden Nugget cocktails waitresses have my favorite uniforms which accentuate the abundant cleavage of the servers. One important comparison is after a trip last year where a couple of wagers won while I was on the flight home, I sent my Golden Nugget ticket in as directed and received a check in less than 2 weeks. I sent a winning Binion's ticket on the same day and didn't receive a check for about 2 months. What impresssed me most about the Golden Nugget is how clean it is and how well the property is maintained. It also has a large pool area that is nicer than many of the famous resorts on the Strip and I always enjoy the tropical fish and shark displays. The Golden Nuggest marketing and casino promotions department is also on the ball with regular offers for discounted rooms and clever special events/entertainment.It could walk, I would probably stay more often at the Golden Nugget, but it is a little too big and spread out like the Strip resorts for me to get around the property easily in my wheelchair and get in and out of my room to Fremont Street quickly. But overall, they do things right and first class at the Golden Nugget and it is easy to see why many people consider this resort the best place to stay in Downtown Vegas. Overall, it attracts a nicer clientele with fewer vagrant types hanging around the property.
