  • Bad Customer Service at Black Bear Casino in MN

I have recently read that hotel services at The Black Bear Casion and Hotel in MN was unaccpetable and the customer service at the site was equally as bad.
I called this morning to update the casino's information for our personal database. The woman who answered the phone was rude and reluctant to help me in any kind of way. Ultimately, she hung up the phone without offereing to transfer me to someone who DID have the info I was looking for.

      Re: Bad Customer Service

Wow, this is quite a departure from my experience at this casino. We went there with our Motor Home and tow car. When parking at a casino, I always go to security and tell them I am parked there. On this particular trip, I had to go to Duluth for several hours. I asked security if it would be OK to leave the MH and drive down in the tow car even though I would not be in the casino. They not only gave permission but said they would watch my MH for as long as needed. Is it possible you just hit someone on a bad day?

Sounds like you visit casinos with your motor home. We have a small MH and are curious of what casinos in the mid-west you have stayed at that are RV friendly. Also, are there any that you did not feel totally safe?

We enjoy staying at casinos in our RV, but have found that some of them are not what we've heard about them.

Some have very little parking, some make us park with the 18-wheelers (don't like to sleep with a diesel running next to us), and others just don't seem as secure as we would wish. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

We have visited a lot of Casinos with our MH over the last 13 years. Never have had a concern about security at any we parked at overnight. We always travel with our copy of American Casino Guide and our cell phone.

Just look up the Casino phone number, call and ask for security. They will be glad to answer all your parking questions and then you can decide whether or not you want to park there overnight.

Thanks for the reply. We always call in advance. At the Isle in Waterloo, IA, we were told that they had an area for us. When we got there, there were two long lanes (next to a construction site) for oversize vehicles.

There were two 18-wheelers parked. If we parked there, one of the trucks would not be able to get out without hitting us. We told security that that was not acceptable and after some discussion, we were directed to the back of the valet lot. It was okay, but not at all what I expected.

The Diamond Jo in Dubuque, IA, lists an area with electric for RV's. They are building a new land-based casino guess where the construction site was...where the RV parking used to be. They said that we could stay in the regular parking lot, but it was not at all level.

It would be good if we could have a place to post these experiences so we would know ahead of time what to expect.

We also travel and stay in our motor home. The Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, MI has a very nice and level parking area for motor homes. Ho-Chunk Casino at Wisconsin Dells, WI also is very nice for motor homes.

Par-a-Dice Casino in Peoria, IL also has a nice space for motor homes, but sometimes you do have to deal with semis. Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City, IN makes you park with the trucks and it is a pretty long way from the entrance.

                  Re:Punter /Bad Customer Service

In general the more remote the casino, the better for overnight, free parking. Some casinos in places like Northern Michigan and the Dakotas have RVparking with free electric and/or water.

There is no exact formula but when a casino offers free RV Parking it's pretty hard to complain. You can evaluate it and either stay or head on down the road to a commercial RV Park.

Another topic not discussed is Casinos with Full service RV Parks attached. Depending upon your level of play you may get comped at the RV Park.

Also, I hope you always join the Players Club when visiting a casino. We get more free nights at their RV Parks than we can use.

We always join the player's club. Many of the casinos with RV Parks give a discount to members.
Do you stay at many casinos in Wisconsin and Iowa? I live in Illinois, but do not visit any of the IL casinos very often.

We have stayed at the Par-A-Dice and found the parking lot okay for an overnight. We do like HoChunk and their level parking lot and Riverside in Iowa for camping.

We usally have a free room at Bettendorf and then we visit the Isle and Rhythm City. We are still looking forward to visiting Four Winds in MI, but will probably stay with family.
