  • Motor City Casino Hotel: Motor City continues to improve itself

Motor City Casino has come a long way since opening in late 1999 in the refurbished Wagner Baking Company building (former home of the Wonder Bread bakery). The property has undergone a major expansion to its gaming area (opened June 2007), a complete remodel of the existing areas (completed late 200 and the opening of their hotel (November 2007).

They have also added an entertainment venue (Sound Board) and completely reworked their food offerings, including a new buffet area (Assembly Line), a new casual dining restaurant (Flames), and moving their 4-diamond restaurant, Iridescence, to the top of the hotel tower.

I had eaten at the old Iridescence location, the food was wonderful, but the restaurant space iteself was somewhat lacking in ambiance. The new location, with its glass wall facing south, offers wonderful views of the Detroit skyline, the Detroit River, Ambassador Bridge, and Windsor, Canada; and the food is still great!

The hotel is top notch, with many hi-tech features in each room (wireless handset phones that work throuhout the property, radios with iPod docks, and an electronic maid service/do not disturb light, to name a few).

The gaming area spreads over two floors, and has a "funky" automotive theme. All the usual table games and slots are offered, and there is a very nice poker room on the first floor. Being primarily a video poker player myself, there is not an abundance of machines with good pay tables, but there are a few if you take the time to look around.

In all, Motor City has done a very good job of improving their offerings to keep competitive with the other casino properties in the Detroit area.
