  • Quesiton on lost gaming machine vouchers?

Someone sent me the following question and I'm not sure of the correct answer - "What are the rules for finding a voucher left in a slot machine by another player, or if you find one on the floor? i cant find any info on this."

I would assume that if you found a voucher on the floor it would be yours to keep, just like finding money on the floor?

However, if the voucher is still sitting in the machine, what would be the proper course of action?

Several months ago I sat down at a video poker machine that someone had just left and as I put my money into it I noticed that there was about $10 in credits still left on the machine.

I decided to note how much was left in credits and just go ahead and play the machine. If the person came back to the machine I would have given them back that money. However, after playing the machine for about 15 minutes no one ever came back and I left the casino.

That situation is slightly different than someone leaving an actual voucher in the machine. I would assume that there is a gaming reguation that might cover this issue, but I am not 100% sure.

It's a real gray area in Atlantic City. I don't think anyone can answer the legal question about who claims the money left in machines or in vouchers sitting around. A lot of homeless people used to (and probably still do) roam around the casinos looking for uncashed credits and coins in the trays, and now, I presume, ticket vouchers. I don't think they get arrested for it, unless they graduate to cashing out a ticket while the player is still at the machine.
I play a lot in Atlantic City, and if I see a voucher lying next to a machine that no one's playing, I'll pick it up. The amounts are usually less than a quarter, but I'm superstitious, and think it's bad luck to see money and let it lie there.
One time I got stopped by security at Trump Marina, after I picked up a voucher for 3 cents. He asked for my ID, and I showed it to him, along with my high-status player card. I just told him I was playing, and I don't go looking for vouchers, but if I see them I pick them up because I think it's bad luck to walk away from free money. He left me alone.
The rules might be different in Las Vegas, so I'd check with someone there.

In Nevada left tito tickets or money left in a machine becomes property of the casino, and taking it is considered theft from the casino and punishable by law. The casinos are very serious about this. Don't even think about it.

As as AC don't know but would assume the laws are similar.
