    Re: Payback at Indian Casinos

Here's a story from the Las Vegas Sun about the introduction of server-based gaming.

Executives outline future of server-based gaming
Server-based gaming has been the most talked about technology among gaming manufacturers in recent years, but the technology will be a gradual change for both customers and operators, slot tech executives said Tuesday at the Gaming Tech Summit at Green Valley Ranch. Server-based gaming allows casinos to have slots connected through a network. It lets operators change themes, promotions, the amount that can be wagered and the hold at a touch of a few keystrokes. CityCenter's Aria paved the way for deploying server-based gaming in newly built casinos. Almost half of the Aria casino floor is server-based, totaling about 900 games from manufacturers International Game Technology and WMS Gaming. The floor will have 100 percent server-based gaming by the summer as more manufacturers receive regulatory approval on their games.

Here's a quote from a story in today's Las Vegas Review Journal about the slot machine industry and how sales are expected to be slow in 2010, please note the part about server-based gaming - "Goldman Sachs, in its annual survey of casino slot managers found that a majority were not interested in buying new games. Those same managers thought server-based gaming system deployment was at least four years away."

Here's another story about server-based gaming in Las Vegas.

IGT to provide server-based gaming system for Cosmopolitan
By Howard Stutz of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

Gaming equipment maker International Game Technology announced a deal Thursday to provide a server-based gaming system to the under-construction Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, which will link slot machines at the Strip resort expected to open in December.

The system, which could connect games from multiple slot machine companies to a central server, allows for better game management. IGT has a similar system at Aria, which connects about 50 percent of the resort's slot machines, and recently installed the system at the Monte Carlo.

          Re: Payback at Indian Casinos

Mr. Lambsburg I think I have figured out why your nickname is "Loser." You think that a casino could maximize its profits by using machines that returned less then 50%. I maintain that nothing could be further from the truth. A casino with such a payback record would soon be deserted. I am sure that most people who experienced the losses you describe would either go elsewhere or quit playing. A 50% profit with few people playing would be much less profitable then a 15% return with a lot of people playing. Most Indian Casinos are managed by industry veterans who know what it takes to draw customers who not only gamble but also eat, drink, and put their butts in the hotel beds. Hopefully you will take this to heart and will quit worrying about being ripped-off at an Indian casino.

WOW. This was fun to read. I see that debate form both sides. He was talking about Indian casinos compared to big time casino's. I just wonder if he knows how much experience you have in casino gaming. Thank you two for letting me read this.

                Re: Payback at Indian Casinos

                quoted from the article:

"On busy weekends and during special events, table-game wagering limits are raised and hotel room rates increase. But it was cost-prohibitive and time-consuming to kick up the wagering limits for slot machines."

that's scary as it say to me that if we are busy, we may take whole banks of machines and raise the denomination. wanna play pennies? sorry we are busy and boosting all these machines to a dime a line or something.

                totally bogus
