Early last month Sheldon Adelson, CEO of the Sands Corp. which owns the Veneyian/Palazoo Casino Resorts in Las Vegas, as well as in Macau and Singapore said the following
"We know that the subject of comps has played out all across Las Vegas, but we've taken a different position. We've essentially cut out all of our comps except the most highly rated players. No more are we packaging deals to try to be competitive with others. There's no more comp rooms given out . there's no more food and beverage, there's no shopping credits, there's no restaurant credits, there's no showroom credits. We're selling rooms and we see that it's resulting in a substantial increase in cash income."
Do you think that all casinos will end up doing this eventually?
Personally, I know they would like to do it, but I don't think it will ever happen. Especially, for the lower-tier casino properties.

Personally, I know they would like to do it, but I don't think it will ever happen. Especially, for the lower-tier casino properties.
and we have made changes as the industry changes. 
. To eliminate this “trend” that may be coming, we have bought timeshare weeks across the street from PH at the Jockey Club. . .$500 per week. . .which is about a day’s allowance of gambling for my wife and I and now we do not have the pressure of earning room comps. And in return, we own a little slice at “the 50 yard line’ on the Las Vegas Strip 
(and enjoy amenities at the Cosmopolitan for compensation in taking the Jockey Club’s parking lot when they built the Cosmo.) We can now enjoy the comps for food, which we used to pay for. The ironic thing about this is, if they hadn’t started this trend, we never would have considered buying timeshare weeks in Las Vegas. Now that we don’t have to gamble to the extent of earning a room comp each day, maybe they’re burning themselves with this new idea.
